comedy, 15-minutes, proof of concept for a feature film
Director’s Statement:
In April 2024, I owed money to the United States government for my taxes. An almost, kind of, what you would call, struggling independent filmmaker in New York City owed even more money. Great. So, what did I do? I wrote about it... and then spent even more (after paying the IRS, of course) to make a movie about the absurdity of hustling for work in the creative world.
We filmed the short over four summer days at the end of August 2024. In the months since, we’ve realized that we found magic working together on-set and that this story would be one- that we believe- would resonate with audiences on a feature-length scale. Thus, we’re currently hard at work finding avenues to get this short scene, while aiming to snowball any momentum in our journey to find support and funding for our feature script.
Throughout the making of this short, I kept telling the crew: 'The Actor' is dedicated to us- the hustlers, freelancers, actors, writers, and job-to-job creatives. While I hope 'The Actor' makes you laugh, know that its comedy, situations, and characters come from a very real place. And also, know that the short, its craftsmanship and performances are just a small sample of what our feature will ultimately be.
‘The Actor’ will begin its film festival journey during the summer of 2025.
