genre: Drama, Family

Made as an exercise in filmmaking at the London Film School and shot within the space of one scheduled day. Per exercise requirements, all sound- including dialogue and sound effects- were recorded during post-production. The three-minute short is an expression of some of my experiences with divorce.

2019: Cocolocodoco, Short Documentary

Synopsis: Cocoloco believes in poetry, cinema, tennis, laughter, sex over lunch, lunch over sex, parties, marmite, vegemite, lavatorial humor, crop rotation, dressing up, and the end, for now…

genre: Documentary

As part of a Term 3 exercise at the London Film School, James, Alexander, and their crew spent one week with the performance art duo (and husband and wife) Trevor Stuart and Helen Statman- who make up Cocoloco. What ensued over that week was equal parts madness and education into a loving marriage.

2014-2018: Boys to Men, Web/Television Series, 5 Episodes

written, directed, produced, edited

Back in the fall of 2014, during his first week as a freshman at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, let’s just say Alexander and his 23-year-old freshman roommate, Ran, walked into a liquor store—with a lot of naiveté—and, well, found themselves in a bit of trouble with the police.

Alex and Ran woke up the next morning with only a slap on the wrist, luckily, and as a reflection, Alexander was inspired to write the first episode of ‘Boys to Men.’ What was to be a mockumentary web series- influenced by the odd-ball couple comedies like ‘Trailer Park Boys,’ ‘The Office,’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’- became so much more- and kind of began to imitate life at UMass for Alexander and his friends.

During the next four years, ‘Boys to Men’ took on a life that consisted of five full-length episodes, three-episode premiere parties, two university-recognized ‘Excellence in Film Studies’ awards, and one line of official merchandise. All episodes were syndicated (and still air) on ‘AmherstMedia,’ a local Western Massachusetts television channel.

Alexander ultimately worked with over 50 students during this four-year project and found his long-time collaborator and friend, Alexa Rockwell, during the journey, as they directed, wrote, and produced all five episodes with the help of many others.

Against my better judgement… all five episodes can be found below.

Episode 5: The Finale (2018)

Probably the best one, so we’ll start there.

Summary: It's the end of a great four years, but uncertainty looms about where to go and what to do next as the Boys, finally, turn into Men.

Received the 2018 Michael S. Roif - Excellence in Film Studies: Best Webisode Award at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Episode 4: Harambe (2016)

Summary: “People move on as they get older, right?” Everyone begins to go their separate ways in the penultimate episode.

Episode 3: Friday (2016)

Summary: It's the first Friday night back from winter break, and it’s now the boys' second year at University. A lot has changed since they were freshmen.

Received the 2016 Michael S. Roif - Excellence in Film Studies: 2nd Place Award at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Episode 2: Love (2015)

Summary: Alex and Ran must fill out their Housing Application if they want to room together their Sophomore year. But as they try to fill out the form on time, "love" starts to get in the way.

Episode 1: Pilot (2015)

Summary: In the first episode, Alex and Ran move back into their dorm and greet each other with hostility. The two also find that they have a new, mysterious neighbor that has been causing problems with other residents.

If you made it this far… bless your soul.
